My Approach
Are you looking to make a change in your life but feel overwhelmed or unsure where to begin?
Each of us goes through periods where we feel stuck or overwhelmed and the path through has become difficult to find. Change, even positive change, can be quite challenging at times. Therapy challenges us to sit with uncomfortable emotions, to explore our pain, all in effort to experience life’s joy and endless possibilities. To go through such a journey in the presence of another is truly courageous. I believe that you are the expert on your life, and my job is to help you recognize and unlock your potential in a supportive, non-judgmental, brave space. In our work together, I will give you support, feedback and insight, and constructively challenge patterns and beliefs that may be getting in your way. Together we can strive to understand the roots of the struggles you are experiencing in your life.
I passionately provide services for addiction, men’s issues, military and veteran issues, anxiety, depression, and loneliness. My approach utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other strengths-based approaches, to encourage clients to recognize their inherent ability to grow and overcome their current presenting problems. During my 16 years mental health career, I have practiced in a variety setting including hospitals, residential facilities, outpatient treatment and crisis intervention support. I recognize how daunting a task choosing a therapist can be and make myself readily available to discuss my skills with potential clients via the Sondermind client portal, e-mail, text or 10-minute phone call to determine how your needs match what I can deliver.

I look forward to working with you!

“Addiction begins with solving a problem, and the problem is that of human pain, emotional pain,” said Gabor Maté. “The first question is not why the addiction; it's why the pain?
Recovery is not a ‘one-size fits all’ solution, meaning that different paths fit and work for different individuals. I honor each person’s unique situation and needs, along with the creative process we each must engage within this challenging endeavor.

Co-occurring disorder refers to having a co-existing mental illness and substance use disorder. Symptoms of substance abuse and mental health issues are often exacerbated by each other. For example, a person with major depressive disorder and an alcohol use disorder may experience more frequent periods of depression if they are not drinking. Consuming alcohol could also increase symptoms of depression, especially for those who drink in excess. I am in a unique position to address co-occurring conditions due to being both a Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Addiction Professional which means I thoroughly understand how to address symptoms of both disorders while working to limit the effect one has on the other.
As a veteran who served in the U.S. Army, I am particularly sensitive to the mental health needs of current and prior military service members. I know how complicated issues of addiction and military trauma can be. Addiction is a serious issue, and all veterans have to choose to fight that battle alone or win the war together.

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. -Nelson Mandela

I work with men who have difficulty identifying with their feelings, struggle with depression and anxiety, or have issues with their work/life balance. My clients typically struggle with expressing themselves in their relationships. They feel lonely, hopeless, and isolated. They are overworked and under loved. In our work together, I will give you support, feedback and insight, and constructively challenge patterns and beliefs that may be getting in your way. Together we can strive to understand the roots of the struggles you are experiencing in your life.
